The Savoy Group International is a registered corporation under the laws of the Republic of Liberia. Savoy's fundamental mission is to create opportunities for advancement of African artists through the mechanism of music festivals, digital records sales, and international concerts, while bolstering the public support for the arts, and Liberia's female track star.
MANDATE/MISSION
The Liberian Music Festival is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors comprised of expatriates and Liberians. The Festival’s objective is to enrich and expand the musical and artistic opportunities for Liberians and ultimately all West African Artists. Through live performances by renowned and local African artists the Festival seeks to create an environment to cultivate and encourage the development of new and established musical talent for international recording contracts from around the globe. The Festival will use Liberia’s premiere venue; the Samuel K. Doe Stadium on July 18, 2009 to provide the atmosphere that celebrates and promotes peace and unity of music around the world.
BRIEF HISTORY
The Liberia Music Festival Organization, a recently formed organization of collaboration of expatriates and local musicians and citizens. By its nature, the festival will use many of Liberia’s existing musicians, while introducing musicians from Kenya and Nigeria. The chief organizer hails from Detroit, Michigan, the home of Motown, Berry Gordy, Aretha Franklin, the Temptations, the Jackson Five. Ms. Edith Bawn, owner of the Greystone Suites has promoted gospel artists, Ms. Dottie Peoples and Byron Cage in Atlanta Georgia (USA).
CONTRIBUTION TO COMMUNITY
In addition to the cultural enrichment for area residents and artisans alike, the Festival will be a major contribution to the economy and vitality of Monrovia’s culture and tourism. The Festival will encourage leadership in the music business promoting, strengthening and unifying all of the arts in the West Africa Region with a unique focus on building an international record label to expose Liberia’s best talent to the world.
PARTNERSHIPS
The Liberian Music Festival has established an excellent rapport with organizations such as Afropop.org, Greystone Suites, and e’Dijene Records of Atlanta, Georgia (USA). We seek to build our partnerships in the business sector, particularly hotels, airlines, travel agencies, restaraunts to connect with other international heritage-related events such as the 15 day Malian Music Festival in the Desert. We are currently working on the digital collaboration for uploading our artists to sites like, I Tunes, BMG and Amazon.com
